IVF in the UK or abroad?

A large number of UK patients is travelling for fertility treatment abroad. IVF in british clinics can prove to be very expensive, especially if more than one cycle is needed. People travelling for in vitro abroad are mostly attracted by cheaper prices, but also high success rates and a greater availability of donors. According to various surveys, the majority of them is satisfied with the standard of care and quality of treatment they receive abroad.

IVF abroad – the pros

One of the biggest factros that drives people to seek in vitro abroad is the cheap price. IVF treatment abroad can sometimes cost half of what it would in the United Kingdom, even when you take into account the price of travel and accommodation. A single cycle of IVF in the UK costs around 5,500 EUR, while for example it is approximately 1,500 EUR in the Ukraine, 2,600 EUR in the Czech Republic and 3,400 EUR in Greece. Apart from being cheap, IVF abroad has also other pluses. Although the situation is getting better, there is a shortage of egg donors in the UK. Abroad you can find many genetic banks that are trustworthy and have virtually no waiting lists, which means you will be able to start your treatment much quicker. Although some people have doubts about in vitro abroad and the quality of treatment, there is nothing to worry about. Respectable clinics abroad offer cheap IVF at a high standard, comparable to the quality of treatment in the UK.

IVF abroad – the cons

One of the biggest minuses of in vitro treatment abroad is the fact that you have to do quite a bit of research to firstly choose a country to travel to and then find a good clinic. Each country has its own laws and restrictions concerning assisted fertility treatment so that is the first thing you should check out. For instance in some countries only married couples are allowed to undergo IVF, while in others, such as Spain, single women and lesbian couples are also eligible for treatment. Another matter to look into is what government body licenses fertility clinics in a given country and how it regulates them. For example in the UK it is the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority ( HFEA), while in India the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NAHB). One more aspect of in vitro abroad is the English language. While many clinics have an international medical team that you can easily communiacte whith, there are some that don't. Remember then to also look into that matter.

Summing up – the UK or abroad?

Even though there are some obstacles during the process of choosing a fertility clinic abroad, travelling for IVF is definitely worth the hassle. For many people it is the only chance of fulfilling their dream of having a baby since treatment in the UK is very expensive. True, there are additional costs such as plane tickets and accommodation, but these days it isn't hard to find a cheap flight and an affordable but high-standard place to stay. What's more, there are many companies and organisations that help patients find a fertility clinic abroad and book evertyhing that is necessary. If you feel like you would like to give it a try, why not think about in vitro abroad at Invicta Clinics in Poland?
