Bangalore – a city of bestowed beauty and lost lakes

Bangalore is the capital city and a district of Karnataka. It is one of the most industrialized cities in India and has a large IT industry. It is equipped with all the parameters of modernization.

Bangalore is the capital of the south Indian state, Karnataka. It is one of the largest and richest cities in India. Primarily an Information Technology city, Bangalore is home to a large number of IT based companies and a diverse populous of about 8.50 million. It is a significant up-market city in the state with a record of fourth highest GDP in India. Located on the south-eastern regions of the state, the city is one of the prime revenue contributors of Karnataka. Today, satisfying almost each and every parameter of modernization, the city is a glamorous location in the state. The majority of population is young, and the literacy rate is around 85 percent, which is higher than that of the whole nation.

The city is also one of the leading centres of education in southern India. Presently, there are 21 Engineering colleges and Bangalore University has 57 Engineering colleges affiliated to it. It is one of the chief cities producing the largest number of engineering professionals every year. Other than that, the city is often called the "Silicon Valley of India" as it houses more than 200 software companies, which also include the biggest players in the industry, namely Google, Microsoft, Accenture, EMC Data Storage Systems(India) Pvt Ltd, etc.

Geographically, Bangalore is the chief metropolitan in India which is situated at the highest elevation from the sea level. The city is about 900 meters above the sea level, which explains the pleasant weather that the city experiences year-long.It is literally situated at the heart of the Mysore Plateau, with most parts of it being plains. However, the western parts of the city are hilly. The city is easily accessible, as there exist excellent road, rail, and air connectivity to the city. It has its own airport connecting the city to all major Indian cities. The Bangalore to Delhi flights and vice-versa is one of the most busiest air routes.

It is a popular medium to access the city. Besides, there are frequent flights from Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, and Kolkata.Note, there is no major river flowing through the city. Though, Arkavathi and South Pennar are the two rivers flowing close to the city but they never flow through the city. The fact also explains the extensive number of lakes in the city and the neighboring regions, which were basically built to satisfy the water needs. But, the sad part is that only a few of the lakes exist today. The mindless land encroachment and the constructions of bus stands, playgrounds, golf courses, residential colonies, and other concrete-structures erased the lakes from the city's map, making them untraceable.

Contemporary Bangalore is a chief hub of commerce, education, and healthcare. It is a melting pot of people, culture, tradition, cuisine, art, and hospitality. It consists of a large migrating population that came seeking good work and educational opportunities. The amazing culture, modern marvels, glorious history, and the lovely weather together have earned the city a top spot in the list of tourist destinations in India. Increasing number of tourists are heading to the city seeking a fun and amazing holiday.

The chief tourist places and sites of interest that are a must visit when in the city include: Brigade Road, Wonderla, Tipu Sultan Palace, ISKCON Sri Radha Krishna-Chandra Mandir, Lumbini Gardens, Bangalore Palace, Bannerghatta National Park, Cubbon Park, Commercial Street, Forum Mall, Snow City, Bull Temple, Innovative Film City, etc. The good thing is that there are a number of good hotels in Bangalore that offer a tour service of these sites.
