Bristol named among UK's top ten destinations for 2014

Bristol honoured in TripAdvisor’s annual Travellers’ Choice awards for Destinations Bristol has moved up from tenth in 2013 to seventh best rated destination in the UK in the Travellers’ Choice awards for Destinations, announced by TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site*.

James Kay, TripAdvisor spokesperson, commented, “These awards are based on millions of reviews and ratings by those that really matter - travellers themselves. Bristol offers a great deal of culture, heritage and beauty and it’s wonderful to see it recognised amongst the UK’s best destinations.”

Kelly Ballard, Head of Marketing for Destination Bristol responding to the news said, “We are delighted that Bristol has been given this accolade. The combination of Georgian architecture, bustling Harbourside, award winning attractions, fantastic shopping and our friendly West Country vibe is obviously being appreciated by lots more people. To move up the ranks from tenth to seventh really is a credit to all of those who are involved in the tourism economy in Bristol.”

This year, Manchester, Glasgow and Blackpool, all winning destinations in 2013, are absent from the list and replaced instead by Edinburgh, York and Leeds, coming in second, sixth and ninth place respectively.

Travellers’ Choice Destinations honour top travel spots worldwide based on the millions of reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travellers. Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, attractions and restaurants in destinations worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.

These awards honour nearly 500 destinations including the winners for the top spots in the world, and individual lists for Africa, Asia, Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, Central America, Europe, China, Middle East, Russia, South America, the South Pacific, the U.K. and the U.S.
